The Crown Polytechnic, Odo-Oro in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State has a special gift for every new student admitted into the institution for their academic pursuits.

It is a special talent discovery and development programme which also included interactive and orientation party organised by the institution’s management to welcome the new students into the academic environment.

On yearly basis, the one week-long programme features events that warm the hearts of students towards their lecturers and the school management.

Some of the events included interactive sessions between the students and all the lecturers who will be teaching them, performances in the creative arts such as music, drama and beauty contest among others, orientation tips to enlighten the new about the institution as well as other programmes geared towards ensuring that the freshers interact freely with one another and with the stale students.

The programme for the 2018/2019 academic session held recently at the lecture theatre of the school amidst pomp and pageantry.

The Dean Students Affairs of the institution, Mrs. Elizabeth Balogun, said:  “Initially, it was just a welcome party but this time we spiced it up with programmes meant to discover the talents with a view to developing

“We also want to entertain them and ensure that they engage in other creative and productive ventures as part of their academic activities so that we will take their minds off nefarious activities such as cultism or thuggery and all that.   We were able to achieve these goals as the new students responded positively.

‘’At the end of the day, we discovered various talents in areas of drama, music, skills acquisitions and beauty contest among others and we shall help them to develop it apart from their academic endeavours. At the end of the day, we had winners who emerged in the beauty contest, drama presentations and others and they were rewarded,” she said.

The Rector of the institution, Mr. Ajisola Thomas, who represented the proprietor, Ajidola Clement, expressed satisfaction with the activites, stating that the school achieved the aims of the events.

“The polytechnic has existed for 11years and we celebrated our 10th anniversary last year. With this programme, we have achieved huge success in the area of getting the new students to feel at home in the school environment, engage in productive and creative activities that took their minds off nefarious activities that would destroy their future. This is why incident of cultism, victimization and other social vice don’t exist in the institution as we have a conducive academic environment where students are secured and kept busy with academic activities,” he said.
