Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has ordered 80 percent of the petrol in Government House to be pumped out and sold at N145 per litre to the people.

The governor, who disclosed this in a series of tweets, yesterday, said he “cannot keep fuel in government house while people in the state suffer.”

Fayose said he took the action because President Muhammadu Buhari did not have a solution to the scarcity.

“I have asked them to pump out 80 percent of the petrol in the government house fuel dump to be sold at the control price of N145. The maximum an individual can buy will be 25 litres.

“This hardship is too much for Nigerians to bear at this time, and it is obvious the president does not have solution to the fuel scarcity.

“People cannot travel to meet their families because of the wickedness of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.”

In a related development, Fayose said it is alarming that in the APC administration of President Buhari, 7.74 million Nigerians lost their jobs in the last two years.

He said it is shameful that, instead of the three million jobs it promised Nigerians yearly, the APC administration has created unemployment.

The governor lamented what he described as ‘We don’t care’ attitude of the government and said “while Nigerians continue to suffer from the ineptitude of this APC administration, “it is more worrisome that the president and his men are carrying on as if all is well with the country.”

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said, in its latest unemployment report, that 4.07 million Nigerians became unemployed between January and September this year. The NBS also said 3.67 million Nigerians became jobless last year.

In his reaction, Fayose said: “Today, under a government that promised change, Nigerians cannot even celebrate Christmas and New Year in peace because of the fuel scarcity… Nigerians are now buying a litre of petrol for as high as N600.

“Nigerians are only asking for food on their tables; they want jobs and security, but they have got hardship and suffering…”

Also, yesterday, Fayose inaugurated 16 newly-elected local government chairmen with a charge not to distance themselves from their people.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti at the Government House Pavilion, the governor also announced the appointment of 13 immediate past local government chairmen that were not returned for another term his special advisers in their respective local government areas.

“Remember that the way up is the way down. If you don’t have the money, make yourself available to the people. The people are not asking for much, but a shoulder to lean on. We are a small state, and if we stay together, we will make a great difference.

“This is not a period to stay aloof from the people you are leading. The people are facing a lot of challenges and we must make every effort to ameliorate their suffering. I pray that we will move into a new year of abundance, victory and accomplishment,” he said.
