Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State, Akinloye Ayegbusi, has denied reports that he is being sponsored by outgoing Governor Ayodele Fayose of the state.

Ayegbusi, who is currently on campaign tour of the 16 local governments areas and 177 wards in the state, said that such allegation was the handiwork of opposition who were jittery by his rising profile.

Rumours have been rife in the political circles in Ekiti State that Ayegbusi is allegedly being sponsored by Governor Fayose divide the votes of Ekiti North senatorial district and weakens the stronghold of the APC candidate.

But reacting to the allegation, Ayegbusi described his reported sponsorship as ‘a personal insult’ not only to him as a person, but to the generality of the Ekiti people who earnestly yearn for genuine change.

In a statement by the Director General,  Akinloye Ayegbusi Campaign Organisation, Yemi Akinbode, the governorship candidate noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) represent darkness while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) represents light.

“How can light and darkness work together?  The mandate of Ayegbusi is divine. This is why he defeated the political heavyweights who squared up with him in the primary election.”

Speaking further, the banker turned politician said his vision and agenda for the state surpasses the ones currently expressed by the ruling government and it will be absurd to operate under a shadow that is inferior to his aspiration.

“Our political agenda is explicit while our vision for the state is superior to the failed governments of APC and PDP that have been ruling the state since 1999. The people are about to witness the dawn of a new era under the SDP government.
