From Wole Balogun, Ado-Ekiti

Having served out its suspension, Ekiti State Government has expressed hopes of being able to access funds from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC)  next year.
Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose said this in Ado-Ekiti, at the wekend, when  he featured in an interview programme on radio and television stations in the state.
Having been barred from accessing following UBEC funds following alleged diversion of over N850 million in 2012, Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, said in a statement that the governor said the funds would be accessed and used to renovate schools in the state.
He noted that the state had served its suspension from the commission’s funding and bemoaned how much was lost in the process.
In the same vein, Fayose said the state government would also set up a special school for gifted children.
“The funds we hope to access will be used to renovate and equip our schools.
“We will take every necessary step to further consolidate the gains we have recorded in the education sector. We will set up a school for gifted children and this will harness the potential of our young ones across communities in the state,” he said.
On the performance of his administration, Fayose said the people of the state should assess him and compare his administration with those that were before his.
Also speaking during a dinner to mark the anniversary of his government, Fayose appealed to governorship hopefuls in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to distract him with their ambitions.
“As we move into the second half of our government… We need to work together as a team, an indivisible one. Those who want to seek the office of the governor on the platform of our party must do it with decorum. They must not let that distract me and the state government…”
My major concern is to by God’s grace lead our party to victory in 2018. I don’t have any preferred person, for I want God to choose somebody after His heart to succeed me. I don’t want to choose anybody by my knowledge, for I rely on God,” he stressed.
The governor also disclosed that more township roads would be dualised and that no project would be left abandoned.
He added that no worker would be owed any salary before he leaves office.
‎He appreciated the people of the state for their cooperation and support for him and his government and promised not to disappoint them.
