Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, will be among dignitaries that to grace the first homecoming of the Department of Political Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) on June 28.

Head of Department (HOD) of Political Science in UNN, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Abada disclosed this, in Nsukka, on Sunday, while speaking with newsmen.

He said the homecoming would be the first since the department was established in 1960.

Abada said the 3-day events would start on June 26 with road walk by staff and students round the campus and  on June 27, there would be mock parliamentary debate by students of the department after which they would proceed to Enugu State House of Assembly to observe parliamentary session.

The HOD said that, June 28 would be the climax of the homecoming with fund raising  for the department  to erect  a befitting  departmental building and homecoming  lecture titled ,”Leadership Input and Humanitarian Crisis Management in Nigeria: Perspective on displaced  Population,” to be delivered by Prof. Danladi Atu,  Director, Institute for Peace Studies and Social Rehabilitation,  University of Abuja.

“It’s unfortunate that the department, established in 1960 with over 1000 students now  and over 50 staff, is still operating on a bungalow with only three classroom  and few offices.

“Most of the lecturers in the department do not have functional offices accommodation while some others are squatting in offices owned by other departments,” he said.

Abada said that other dignitaries  expected that day in UNN include: Sen Gil Nnaji representing Enugu East senatorial district,  Sen Chukwuka Utazi  representing Enugu North senatorial district  and Prof Okey Ibeanu,  INEC Commissioner and Senior lecturer in the department.
