The presidential and National Assembly elections went peacefully yesterday in Anambra State.

There was however clash between some thugs in Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

The state also had issue of card reader failure in some polling units. For instance,  in unit 014 Uga Ward 2, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District,  Chief Chris Uba and his people could not vote yesterday as at 1pm due to card reader failure.

While Uba and the crowd of voters at the Otiogbata hall polling units 014 and some in polling unit 015, were disappointed as they could not be accredited due to card reader malfunction, the situation was different at his elder brother’s side, who is the APC’s candidate in the contest, Senator  Andy Uba. The lawmakers voted at the polling unit in Okwata hall.

The PDP candidate Uba had said, “I came to vote and you can as well see that my people are here in their numbers but we could not vote because the card reader was not working. They should give me opportunity to vote, I am the PDP senatorial candidate. We are surprised that after the one week postponement, INEC is still telling stories.”

Also at Abagana Ward 4, polling unit 003 in Njikoka Local Government Area, same card reader failure almost denied a House of Representatives candidate of APDA, Afam Akonanya and his people opportunity of voting.

Akonanya told Sunday Sun that he and his people were at the polling unit earlier before 8am, but were yet to do anything as at 10.30am because of the failure of the card reader.

Though there was not much of the usual intimidating presence of security personnel, a particular police team that had in its convoy five patrol vans and led by a DSP, terrorise the people as they move round the communities.

They trailed reporters of The Sun, The Nation, Vanguard, Punch and Thisday who were in a hired mini bus, to where they had gone to monitor activities around the PDP vice presidential candidate, Mr.  Peter Obi. The Police team stopped the journalists and threatened to shoot. They later took away their vehicle key leaving them stranded at Agulu near Awgbu junction.
