The governor also accused the opposition party of engaging in post-election mayhem, with attacks and arson on law abiding citizens.

“My fellow people of Sokoto State, I have cause to address you on the current happenings concerning the ongoing general elections in our state. During the electioneering, our political party engaged in the mobilisation of our people towards giving your mandate.

“Our party, the PDP, ran a peaceful campaign devoid of violence or thuggery in the conviction that our ambition is not worth the lives of our people.

According to him, “many properties and houses were razed in Wamakko and Kware towns and part of Sokoto metropolis, in show of terror against perceived opponents and non-partisan members of the public.”

Tambuwal recalled that during the electioneering, PDP engaged in the mobilisation of the electorate towards giving the party their mandate.

“Against extreme provocation, we ran an orderly campaign that respected the lives and dignity of all segment of our society. During the elections, we experienced developments that clearly exhibited the continued determination of the opposition to engage in do-or-die politics. Leaders and loyalists of our party were harassed, hounded and arrested by security agents, even on the day of elections.

On the election, Tambuwal narrated that, “at many polling units identified as our strong holds, logistics and technical problems delayed balloting to very late hours and we were well aware of efforts to engage electoral officials and security agents by the opposition, with a view to compromising their integrity.

“I wish to therefore, appeal to our good people to continue to be patient and law abiding. We should remember that a more critical election to our lives as a state is coming in the next few days as the governorship and State Assembly elections approach.

“I call on the people of Sokoto State to rededicate ourselves to the process. We should be prepared to come out and elect our leaders at this most critical tier of government that has direct bearing on the lives of our teaming masses,” Tambuwal said.

In a related development, Hon Abdulsamad Dasuki, has disclosed that PDP is still studying the results and the entire process of the election.

Abdulsamad Dasuki, who lost in his bid for re-election on the platform of PDP, while speaking with Journalists in Sokoto on Tuesday, hinted that the party might seek redress where it uncovers anomalies.
