Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has said that he was taken aback by the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections by INEC.
Obiano who spoke through his Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, however boasted that his party was already prepared to deliver all its candidates in the state before the unfortunate postponement.
On his part, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, said INEC’s action came with mixed feelings of disappointment because his party according to him was ready for action, as it was poised to deliver the president and other APC candidates at the polls in Anambra State.
Ngige said that having listened to the INEC chairman and his reasons, he believes that “anything worth doing is worth doing well; they should take their time.”
He, however, advised the INEC to do the needful by cancelling all the materials that had left the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) premises to different destinations.
Former governorship candidate of PPA and now a stalwart of PDP, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, described the postponement as a huge embracement to Nigeria, stressing that it had reduced the worth of the country before comity of nations.
While insisting that INEC owes Nigerians more explanation than mere logistics challenges as its reason for the shambolic action, Ezeemo said, the logistics and expenses of electorate who travelled far and near to perform the simple civic responsibility was immeasurable.
In her own reaction the Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Stella Okunna, described the situation as a very sad one as it had left a bad precedence for the nation’s political life, saying, “this election was not impromptu; INEC has brought shame to this country.”
