The Ogun State Government has expressed its support for the bill that will criminalise estimated billing system by the Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOS), being proposed by the National Assembly.

The Consultant to the Ogun State governor on Power, Hon. Olusegun Gbeleyi, made this known, on Thursday, while speaking with selected journalists in Abeokuta.

Gbeleyi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant in Ogun West Senatorial District, described the move as a good thing, saying it would go a long way in improving the power sector.

He explained that the proposed bill, if passed and signed into law, would protect electricity consumers in Nigerians and also make power distribution companies more accountable and responsible.

“I truly subscribe to it (bill) and support it. It will protect customers from estimated billing and also make service providers more accountable and responsible. In England, the customers have the right to sue the service providers as granted by the law, if  they take electricity without informing the consumers.

“Likewise, the service providers can sue customers if they bypass meters to steal power. This should also be added into the bill”. He stated.
