Arsenal got their campaign at the annual pre season tournament the Emirates Cup underway with a convincing 5-2 thrashing of Portuguese giants Benfica.
The Gunners handed a start to Nigerian forward Alex Iwobi, and he responded by firstly playing in a part in the build up that lead to Arsenal first two goals scored by Theo Walcott.
Arsenal were cruising comfortably at 4-2 thanks to an own goal and a goal by Olivier Giroud, before the Nigeria international scored what could easily pass as the best goal of the game for the Gunners.
Iwobi was teed up by Giroud at the edge of the box of Benfica, and the Nigerian released a spectacular drive which nestled into the top corner of the net of Benfica leaving goalkeeper Julio Cesar stranded. It is his second pre season goal for Arsenal after his strike against Bayern Munich in a 1-1 draw two weeks ago in China. Overall he now has two goals and two assists for Arsenal in four pre season games.
