Human Rights, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders’Foundation (HURIDE), has urged the state governors to begin the reconstruction of burnt and destroyed police stations and compensate all the police and other victims of the violence demonstration in their various states.
The however, urged the State Governors to immediate set a special committee to access the level of killings and destruction of public institutions with hope to compensate the victims especially police officers  who lost their lives during the recent #End SARS protest in their States.
The Chairman of the HURIDE Mr. Dede Uzor in a statement sympathised with those who lost their loved ones during the protest.
Uzor said they may not legislate for the Governors how much the state can pay each victim but he can take a cue from Governor Nyeso Nwike of Rivers State who has promised to pay N20m to each of the late Poliice officers in addition to scholarship to their children.
“We Comdemn the obnoxious and lackadaisical disposition of some governors especially the South East governors who had done nothing to support the police and boost their moral since after the #EndSARS protest paving the way for criminals to take over streets of each cities unleashing terror to citizens”.
HURIDE equally appealed to the Governors to grant amnesty to the hoodlums who carted away arms like AK-47 Raffles belonging to the Police but decides to return it within 14 days.
The group said if after 14 days,  the Police authority should begin agressive  man -hunt of anyone linked with the incident until all the arms in wrong hands were fully recovered.
He further urged the Governors to empower the vigilante groups in their respective states by paying them N30, 000 each for each of  the vigilant operatives in the State so as to enable them complement the effort of the Police as part of community policing in the State.
“We also sympathise with families of the victims who lost their loved ones during this protest. We equally urge the governors to provide compensation to every victims who was killed especially the recent Lekki public killings by some suspected soldiers as a result of #ENDSARS protest”  the group stated.
