Kano state mobile courts attached to the state Task Force Committee on sanitation, arrested 78 defaulters of the October round of the exercise on Saturday.

The mobile courts said N85,000 was received as fine from the defaulters the exercise in Kano metropolis.
Speaking ro newsmen shortly after monitoring the exercise, the Chairman of the committee, Dr Kabiru Getso, commended residents for mass compliance.

He said that the October round was highly complied with, in view of limited movement of people and vehicles.
Getso, also the state Commissioner for Environment, expressed dismay over nonchalant attitude of some residents of Kabara quarters for dumping refuse indiscriminately.

“We have observed that some ill mannered people in the community are fond of dumping refuse on the major ways.

“Also, some of these people have also formed the habit of dumping into drains and blocking the water ways.

“These acts are majorly responsible for causing environmental hazards such as flood in our environments.” Getso decried.

He, however, appealed to residents to support the efforts of governments by committing to environmental sanitation and hygiene.

” The government is doing its best and has expended a lot in taking care of our environment, so, there’s need for our collective support, ” Getso stressed.(NAN)
