Immediatepast president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Samson Ayokunle Olasupo and the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, have signed a pact for a peaceful and secured Nigeria ahead of 2023 general election.

The former CAN leader, in a statement, said their action and commitment were part of their efforts to support government’s steps to strengthen fragile peace and unity in Nigeria.

It also confirmed that the pact was signed at the end of the International Religious Freedom Summit that ended in Washington, United States, few weeks ago, in which the Sultan was represented by the former executive secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIIS), Usman Yusuf.

Olasupo said the pact laid out principles that all Nigerians could readily affirm, stating that people are endowed by the Creator with inherent value and fundamental rights regardless of nationality, ethnicity, culture, religion or other differences that promotes division, and that essential freedom and dignity of every person must be respected and protected.
