It was a moment of somber reflection at Uvuru community, in Uzo Uwani Local
Government Area of Enugu state as over four hundred widows filed out at the country home of Rt. Hon. Jonathan Chukwuma, Special Adviser to the Governor Enugu State Governor on Inter-Party affairs, to receive Christmas packages such as cash gift and a bag of rice each.

The packages which were provided by the Governor of the state, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was meant to help the underprivileged women in the community celebrate a hitch free Christmas along with others.

The widows in their reaction to the gesture, nominated five of their members who took turns to pray for the preservation of the Governor and his wife, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi, as well as God’s grace upon the Executive Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Chukwudi Celestine Nnadozie and Rt. Hon. Barr. Jonathan Chukwuma who was instrumental to the provision and delivery of the items.

Speaking during the event, Rt. Hon. Barr. Jonathan Chukwuma, former deputy speaker, Enugu state Assembly, who was flanked by his wife, Mrs. Eucharia Chukwuma told the gathering that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in his magnanimity, gave the cash gifts, bags of rice and other consumables presented to the windows, following his plea to the Governor.

The SPA who had earlier broken down in tears, following the number of widows in the community, prayed to God to grant Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi his heart desires now and even beyond, for coming to the plight of the widows in the community.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Chukwudi Celestine Nnadozie, who also doled out financial gift to complement the Governor’s efforts, also bemoaned the increase in widowhood in the society, while praying to God to save his people from such tragedy.

In attendance at the occasion were Permanent Secretary, commerce and industry, Hon. Chinonso Anigbo; President General of Uvuru Community, Supol Mathew Amuka (Rtd); Hon. John Offor, State assistant auditor of the PDP; Secretary to the LG, Prince Emeka Oroko; Supervisor for Health, Collins Chukwuebuka Okafor; Barr. Fred Chike, former administrator, Mbanano Development Centre;

Others are Rev. Father Christopher Mamah, former Parish priest of St. Patrick’s parish Uvuru; Hon. Felix Ozota, Councilor Nrobo ward; Hon. Vitus Ugwu, Councilor, representing Akpugo ward; parish priest of St. Patrick’s parish, Uvuru, Fr. Cyril Okpe.

Daily Sun gathered that each of the widows went home with an undisclosed amount of money with 10kg bag of rice.
