Amidst funfair and excitement, Exponent Distilleries Limited, producers of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, has unveiled its brand, Oyi Bitters, in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

The company also unveiled some artists as its brand ambassadors.

Speaking during the Oyi Bitters media unveiling of the product on Wednesday, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Desmond Edwin, said that Oyi Bitters is entering the market with uncommon gusto.

According to him, out of the hundreds of Bitters brands in the Nigerian market, not up to five could be said to be reliable in terms of sourcing and production.

Mr Edwin said “sourced from the deep lush green vegetational land of the ancient Benue people, comes some of Africa’s most exotic herbs, roots and rare tree barks with renowned health benefits responsible for preserving the health of the people as far as history could allow us to remember.

“It is an age-long practice amongst the African elders to reveal secrets of healthy living, spirit powers or transfer of knowledge of herbs and roots among their tribesmen only. This cultural practice gave birth to the word Oyi which derives its meaning from the Idoma dialect.”

He explained that Oyi Bitters and its variants are a perfect blend of nature’s gift inspired by the ancients, produced for the modern to promote health, deepen cultures, promote social gatherings and establish friendships.

Edwin said the product contains cinnamon which has been proven to help reduce the risk of heart disease, lowers blood sugar level and increases immunity that enables you to fight diseases.

While noting that social fora provide opportunities for healing relationships and health, they could also be avenues for abuse of alcoholic drinks, Edwin assured that Exponents Distilleries Limited has taken time in promoting responsible consumption of alcohol.
