Recently Accra and the environ came alive as the Eze Ndigbo Ghana and the Assistant Publicity Secretary Association of Ndieze Ndigbo in the Diaspora, HRM Dr Chukwudi Ihenetu converged to celebrate the new yam festival/Igbo Day.

The event also doubled as celebration of His Majesty’s 10th Year on throne as paramount king of Ndigbo in Ghana.

While blessing the kolanut, the Umuduruoha Amaigbo Nwagele Imo-State born Royal Father, HRM Dr Ihenetu prayed for progress and blessings upon the Igbo and other guests at the event.
in his remarks HRM Ihenetu thanked God for His mercies and grace to witness this year event.

The Royal Father explained that Yam is the king of crops and it is revered in Igboland adding that this years edition is special because it also involved celebration of Igbo Day and10 years of Igbo kingship in Ghana.

“This festival afford us the opportunity to come together to celebrate our culture and showcase it to the world.

It serve as avenue to help our children to learn our culture and traditions. Today they were able to see masquerades and Igbo traditional dance even without traveling to Igbo land.”
The arena was filled to the brim as traditional rulers, captains of industries, corporate entities and people from all walks of life thronged the venue to witness the festival.

When it was time to cut the new yam, HRM Ihenetu prayed and then cut the yam to the admiration of the people who shouted Igweeeee!!

Awards and recognitions were also given to distinguished men and women of valour who has contributed immensely in the service of humanity.

The new Yam festival went well  as Former Ghanian  presidents, His Excellencies John Kufor and John Mahama were fully represented. The Etsu Nupe who is the Chairman  Council of Traditional Rulers in Nigeria was fully represented, King Apollos was also on ground to grace the occasion. Invited guests from Israel,

United States of America, Lebanon, Turkey and many from Nigeria were also in attendance.
From the open field the event moved to a banquet hall where HRM Ihenetu, his wife, Her Majesty Ugoeze

Liberty Ihenetu took to the dancing floor and danced to the admiration of the people.

Ghana Gospel musician and Nigeria star actor, Jim Iyke were honoured with Chieftaincy.

Ike Howard of Viola Fletcher foundation was also honoured with Chieftaincy for his contributions of service to humanity.

Angel Ogechi Ihenetu and Jude Chinemeze Ihenetu  also received chieftaincy title as The Crown  Princess (Angel) and Crown  Prince (Jude) from  their father, HRM Eze Dr. Ihenetu during the Igbo Igbo New yam festival in Accra ,18th September 2022

At the close of the festival, the Royal father wished his guests safe journey to their respective homes
