The Eze Ndigbo Ghana and the Assistant Publicity Secretary Association of Ndieze Ndigbo in the Diaspora, HRM Eze  Dr Chukwudi Ihenetu has commended the organisers of the 2ndigbo Nsuka Zik  merit annual Awards describing it as the best way to immortalise the great statesman.

Former President GoodLuck Jonathan had attended the epoch event where he showered encomium on foremost nationalist, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe on the role he played in building modern Nigeria.

In his words as released in his Twitter handle, Jonathan said: “Today, I joined Nigerians from all parts of the country in Abuja at the 2nd Igbo Nsukka Zik Annual Merit Award to celebrate the legacies of Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe on the occasion of the late nationalist and first President of Nigeria’s 117th birthday.

“I thank the National Executive Council of Igbo Nsukka United Front (INUF), organisers of the event, for honouring me with the Defender of Democracy Award.”

In a statement, HRM Eze Dr Ihenetu said ex president Jonathan and Dr Azikiwe has something in common. While,  Dr. Azikiwe along with other nationalists engaged the colonialist without violence, until the country attained independence, Former president Jonathan defended democracy by conceding defeat in the 2015 general election. “By this singular act, Jonathan saved Nigeria from unnecessary bloodshed. Today he has become peace ambassador to troubled West African country of Mali and recently Guinea.”

While praising the organisers of the award for celebrating Zik of Africa, HRM Dr Ihenetu said, immortalising Dr. Azikiwe will etch his legacies on the mind of Nigerians.

Taking a look at Nigeria in the recent time, the royal father said poor governance has spread poverty and crime in the country. Eze Ihenetu this call on the Federal Government to empower the youths through job and wealth creation.

On what he has been doing in Ghana to direct affairs of Ndigbo in that country, HRM Ihenetu who has won several awards as Peace Ambassador said Igbo in Ghana now do their business without fear of intimidation. He said robust relations between Nigerians and their host country has resulted in peaceful coexistence of both nationalities.
