…Rescues victim after parents paid N180,000 ransom

The police at Apo Divisional headquarters, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have arrested a 20-year-old man for kidnapping a 6-year-old boy.

The suspect, Ebenezer Kuphipi, was said to have kidnapped the boy, identified as Innocent Alayayi, at ECWA Church at Damangaza village, at Apo area of the FCT, on Tuesday, December 17.

Upon, kidnapping the little boy, he was said to have called the boy’s parents and demanded a ransom of N180,000 for his release or have him killed.

The parents were said to have complied and deposited the money at the agreed spot after which the boy was released to them on December 19, two days after he was kidnapped.

However, upon his release, the little boy, who did not know that he was kidnapped, gave the identity of his abductor who happens to live in the neighborhood to his parents.

Upon hearing the information from their son, his parents reported the matter to the Apo Division Police headquarters, which immediately deployed its men to the village to arrest the suspect.

Upon his arrest, he was thoroughly searched and found to be in possession of N51,000 which happens to be part payment of the money paid to him as ransom. He was later taken to the station.

At the station, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and blamed it on the devil, who he said, pushed him into the act to get some money to celebrate the Christmas and New Year.

The suspect had since been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department, at the Federal Capital Territory police command headquarters for further investigation.

When contacted, Public Relations Officer in charge of the FCT Police Command, Anjugurl Manzah, confirmed the report and said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
