The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), police command has paraded 37 suspects for kidnapping, armed robbery and car/phone snatching among other heinous crimes.

 

The suspects, among them a female, were said to be responsible for terrorising residents of Abuja.

Items recovered from them included

Dane guns, locally-made pistols, live cartridges, iron cutter, mobile telephone handsets, giant hammers, plasma television sets, thunder arrestor, charms, cutlasses, axes, stolen motorcycles, one Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number KWL 504 NM, knives, daggers, bags of Indian hemp and drugs among others.

Parading the suspects before newsmen at the command headquarters in Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, Bala Chiroma, reiterated the determination of the police to crush criminals who are still operating in the nation’s capital and called on residents to avail the police with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals.

He said two children, Rejoice Godwin, seven, and Seke Godwin, nine, of the same parents kidnapped on March 8, from Yimi village in Zuba, were rescued at Lambata in Niger State on March, 16.

He also said three suspects, Nasiru Mohammed, 20, Sale Bello, 19, and Hassan Audu, 20, were arrested and two Dane guns were recovered from them at the time of their arrest.

He also said that the police rescued a victim who was being robbed at gunpoint and killed one of the suspects during a shoot-out with the police.

 

Giving a breakdown of the arrest, the CP said five suspects were arrested after robbing an apartment at Suncity Estate, Galadimawa and  two locally-made pistols, nine rounds of live cartridges among other dangerous weapons recovered from them.

The CP, who said the police were making the FCT very unbearable for criminals, said a four-member gang that specialises in robbing residents of Gwarinpa, were arrested after they rob a hotel in Gwarinpa, 3rd Avenue and carted away some valuables namely plasma television sets, phones and one laptop. Sadly the leader of the gang, a female, Rosemary Udenyi, 28, happens to be a staff of the hotel and mastermind of the robbery operation.

The CP, who said the suspects were arrested in various parts of the FCT, added that efforts had been intensified to arrest those who were on the run while the those in custody of the police would be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation was concluded.
