The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, has sealed two Chinese companies in Akwa Ibom State for non payment of revenue to the Federal Government and for obstructing officers of the ministry from verifying their weighbridge.

The two companies were sealed by the Legal Metrology (Weights and Measures) Department of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment on September 30, 2022.

Deputy Director, Legal Metrology (Weights and Measures) Engr. Ibrahim Isah, who issued a release on Tuesday in Calabar, said the two companies, China Road and Bridge Construction Company Limited and Wizchino Engineering Limited violated item 65 of the Nigerian Constitution on the exclusive list.

According to him, China Road and Bridge Construction Company Limited violated section 7(2) 16, 17, 30(b) and 42 of the Weights and Measures Act by refusing to permit the inspectors of Weights and Measures to verify their weigh bridge.

He said that the company also broke the seal and obstructed the inspectors from carrying out their statutory functions, which contravene section 17 of the Weights and Measures Act.

Accordingly, Engr. Isah said in the release that no certificate of verification was in force in the company, hence violating section 30(b) of the Weights and Measures Act and the presumption of possession of weights, section 42.

For Wizchino Engineering Limited, Engr. Isah said that the company also violated item 65 of the Nigerian Constitution.

According to him, the company also refused the inspectors to carry out their statutory duties.

He added that the company has no certificate of verification in force and also refused to permit the inspectors of Weights and Measures to verify their weighbridge.
