Youth and Sports Development Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung has said that the era of  godfatherism playing roles into sporting federations are over and will have no place in next month’s federations’ election.
Dalung stated this on Sunday at the Old Parade Ground, venue of the finals of the NUGA 3X3 Basketball Tour powered by the AMK Foundation noting that given the fact that government cannot be left with the responsibility of sports development, the need for the full participation of corporate organizations and those with the right thinking for sports would be allowed to give sports the desired attention it deserves.
“Sports like I have always said is a big industry that we’ve not tapped to its fullest but with the right minds in federations, I think we will be able to achieve employment for our youths. A situation where because of godfatherism, someone who is in hockey is taken to handball will not be accepted.
“Government’s duty is to ensure that facilities are available and that we will ensure we do. The private sector, foundations and others can also help out in this regard like we can see with the AMK Foundation and its 48-feet container that can transport its facilities to any part of the country and beyond.
“In a matter of weeks, the red flag will be served the federations and I want to assure you that the elections would be all inclusive. No one would be shut out for any reason whatsoever. Government needs people and corporate organizations to help the sports industry grow.”
