From Fred Itua, Abuja

Concerned kindred family members of Ndiaga, Umunenshi and Umuchimengwu, Amechi-Uwani, Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, have appealed to the State Government, to allow justice prevail in the ongoing court case over felony charges.

Lawyer to the members of the various communities, Mr. Kennedy Obinna, in a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General of Enugu State, said it has become necessary to set certain records straight.

Mr. Obinna said the State Government needs to hear the real story underlying the arraignment of suspects before the Enugu South Magistrate court.

He said there is an attempt to pull a wool across the eyes of the Ministry of Justice and pervert justice in the instant charge regardless of the overwhelming evidence in the hands of the Zone 13 headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force.

The lawyer said members of the communities have severally felt the brunt and suffered some harms orchestrated by the accused in their community with several scars to show.

He said: “Our clients are quite aware that the investigation which led to the arraignment of the defendants overwhelmingly revealed the culpability of the defendants in the crimes for which they are standing trials.

“Further to that, it is also a common knowledge to our clients and even other people that the defendants have several other criminal allegations against them.

“In view of the above and many other points too numerous to mention here, our clients are convinced that justice will prevail in the instant case as your antecedents provide our clients with the confidence that fairness, equity and justice will be done in the charge even as our clients would at all times be available in your office for a clearer presentation of their case against the defendants if your honourable office so desires.

“It is our clients’ most passionate appeal that your advice on the case file favours that the defendants proceed to trial before a competent court of law where their innocence or otherwise will be established.
