The Federal Government has said the greatest challenge facing the nation is collapse in the reward system.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung who made the statement while honouring Late former Governor of defunct, Eastern Region, Dr. Akanu Ibiam in Abuja, said that the reward system had been mortgaged for materialism. He appealed to Nigerians to reverse and retrace every step from the monetization of values.
“We must reposition the society to a system where the reward system is functional, those who work hard should be rewarded, those who have served should be remembered. The margin oriented young people only aspire to possess, as to how they will possess it is in material.”
Dalung added that “we will also be coming up with a policy to domesticate the innovation equipment from the Ministry of Science and Technology in all competitions with the local content policy of this administration for patronization.”
On his part, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, averred that the best way to make values significant was to honour and follow the steps of those who throughout their lifetime have made sacrifices and shown special values that can make a nation truly great.
Onu, while eulogizing Ibiam, for his resilient effort for the success of the country,  stressed the need for reorientation of values, recognise the past and apply it for greatness.
