Federal Government, on Friday, announced the released of the list of admissions into the 110 Federal Government Colleges (FGCs) otherwise known as Unity Schools located across the country, including the Gifted Academy in Suleja.

A statement signed by the Director Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Benjamin Bem Goong, asked parents of pupils who applied for admission into any of the Unity Colleges to check for the names of their wards on the Ministry’s websites; www.education.gov.ng or at the school they applied.

The statement added that limited vacancies still exist in some Unity Colleges and admission is on going in schools where such vacancies still exist.

Few weeks ago, the Federal Ministry of Education, released the criteria for admission into Unity Colleges, with a reconfirmation that it will strictly abide by the established criteria for admission.

The government said that 60 per cent of the admission would be based on national merit, 30 per cent would be on equality of states while 10 per cent will be on exigency.

Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who spoke through Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, the Director, Senior Secondary Education, Federal Ministry of Education, at a meeting of the Principals of the Unity Colleges in Benin, Edo State, to herald the commencement of the admission processes directed that the process must be guided by the principles of fairness, equity and good conscience.

He said: “If we are to produce responsible citizens, we must stick to the rules in order to make the right choices of qualified candidates as a foundation for future academic excellence.”

The Minister directed that every part of the country should be given a sense of belonging in the admission exercise, and the process should also reflect the ideals of the founding fathers of Unity Colleges as centres of academic excellence and models for states and private schools, as well as instruments for national integration and unity.

He emphasized that candidates who applied for admission from outside of their immediate communities should be given priority in the admission process.
