As a way of ensuring delivery of sustainable construction practices in the country, the Federal Government said it would map out new proactive strategies to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the construction industry.

Director-General of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI), Danladi Matawal, who disclosed this at a world conference on the 2018 NBRII International Conference, recently, said part of the ground plans are to regulate local manufacturers of building materials and also, ensure professionalism amongst builders and architects.
He said the institute has decided to focus on fast-tracking sustainability in the built environment with emphasis generally on the build environment especially town and regional planning, house and building, roads and infrastructure.

Matawal also lamented the need for increased local content through the massive use of alternative and emerging construction materials in the provision of cost effective building and road infrastructure in the country.

“The research officers we are lacking, we have improved in that regard and many of them are in the field doing works here and there suggesting avenues related to our mandate areas that would make the country independent and economically vibrant.
