The Federal Government will set up a committee to ascertain the cause of the fire on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at the office of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), Abuja.

Minister of labour and employment, Senator Chris Ngige, represented by the permanent secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, William Nwankwo Alo, while inspecting the scene of the fire outbreak, expressed shock and sadness over the incident.

He, however, pledged the support of government in cushioning its effects.

The minister also gave assurances that more preventive measures would be put in place at the centre to forestal a recurrence of such incidents.

The director-general of the National Productivity Centre, Kashim Akot, regretted the incident but stressed that the fire recorded no casualty.

He appreciated the quick response of the Federal Fire Service, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in containing the fire from spreading beyond a section of the building.

The director-general also commended the Ministry of Labour and Employment for its prompt visit following a distress call put across to the ministry.

The NPC, a research-oriented parastatal supervised by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, has the mandate of articulating policies that would promote the productivity of all sectors of the economy.
