The Federal Government has disclosed its plans to probe the financial expenditure in the Niger Basin Authority (NBA) especially the report of external auditors for 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Dr Musa Wen Ibrahim made this known at the 37th Ordinary Session Meeting of the Technical Committee of Experts in Abuja.
Adamu explained that the Authority would not be reviewed alone, citing the “adoption of the Report of External Auditors FY 2015-2016 and 2017; review and adoption of the 2018 2020 OPB budget (2018-2020 OPB); review (AWPB); Objective-based Programme and adoption of OPB 2019-2021 Annual Work Plan Budget.”
He continued that committee members will also “review and adopt the 2019 AWPBr review and adoption of 2019 Budget for Council of Ministers of the Basin,” he added.
On his part, National Coordinator of the NBA Engr. Gerald O. Osuagwu said the dialogue would be fruitful and devoid of bias because it would set the stage for the Council of Ministers deliberation on the way forward to meet the needs of over 130 million people living at the Basin.
“As experts we are expected to take a critical review of all the issues that will be presented to us in this meeting in the interest of the NBA without any bias or undue sentiments and make appropriate recommendations to the Council of Ministers when they meet on Friday 19th October, 2018,” Osuagwu said.
