No fewer than five students of Awosika Secondary School in Ondo, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State sustained serious injuries when the vehicle conveying them to school had an accident.

The accident, sources said, was caused due to brake failure, which led the vehicle to enter into a ditch along Ondo/Akure Road.

The school bus branded with the name of the school marked LAGOS BK 23 GGE was conveying no less than 30 students of the school when the accident occurred.

It was gathered that the driver of the bus who was said to be a Septuagenarian lost the control of the bus after its break had failed, and thereby hit an electric pole before it entered into a ditch on the road.

The injured students were said to have jumped out of the ill- fated coaster bus immediately the driver complained of brake failure before it plunged into the ditch at the Italurowo end of the road.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo unit command reportedly provided assistance for the injured victims, even as they took them to the state specialist hospital, Ondo where they are still receiving treatment as at press time.

Confirming the report of the accident, the unit Commander of the FRSC, Ondo unit, Mr. Olanrewaju Adewumi, an Assistant Corps Commander, said the accident was as a result of brake failure.

He assured that the organization will continue to do its best in order to reduce road crashes on all the roads in the state and the country at large.
