Motorists who travelled along Abuja- Lokoja Highway were stranded for hours, yesterday, as the road was heavily flooded.
This made it for them to pass through the road.
The flooded area was located around Nataco Junction, at Seriki Numan village, about one kilometre to Lokoja metropolis.
It was gathered that there was an early morning downpour which lasted for about three hours in Lokoja and its environs, coupled with waterfalls from the mountains surrounding the highway which might have led to the flooding.
Daily Sun also gathered that blockade of some water channels by some villagers, who ignorantly built houses along the channels, also contributed to the flooding as the waters flowed directly to the main road.
It was also observed that the water level of the River Niger is now at its peak as the bank of the river has overflown, raising fears of the flood disaster of 2012 which ravaged nine local government areas in the state.
Motorists coming from Abuja were said to have been stranded around Okumi village while those going towards the North were reportedly stranded at Nataco junction end of Lokoja.
A witness said commuters waited for several hours to allow the water receed before they eventually waded through the flood, at about 1:00pm, yesterday.
Motorists told Daily Sunthey hoped that before too long, the water on the highway would recede, even as they prayed that rain would stop falling.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the flood pulled down three houses at Felele, a nearby community on the highway while the rains lasted.
There was however no loss of lives.
