Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo
The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini has called on the former governor of the State, Rev Jolly Nyame, to forgive all those who masterminded his incarceration.
The Speaker made the call during a grand reception in Jalingo, in honour of Nyame following his freedom, after a presidential pardon recently.
He said, “since the presidential pardon and your freedom, Tarabans from all walks of life have waited anxiously to welcome you back home. Therefore, today is a historic day and your home-coming is an epoch-making occasion in the history of the State.
“Your Excellency, it is appropriate to describe you as an iconic figure in Taraba State which you had a rare privilege to govern.
“Indeed, serving jail term is hard on a person’s family, but it is even harder and painful for the person jailed; in fact, there is nothing harder to deal with than incarceration and loss of freedom. Let go of the past and forgive all those, who in one way or the other, were responsible for his incarceration.
Responding, Nyame who was visibly overwhelmed, paid glowing tribute to President Mohammadu Buhari, who made his freedom possible.
He said, “I want to start by appreciating God Almighty and Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari; I want to also appreciate the Council of State that made it possible for me to regain my freedom”.
Nyame, who was recently released from Kuje prison arrived Jalingo over the weekend for the first time to a grand reception.
