For failing to attend the 50th anniversary of death of General J.T.U Aguiyi Ironsi, or even declaring a public holiday in his honour, as a mark of respect, Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has incurred the wrath of Ibeku Egwuasaa Elders Forum.
The Chairman of the Forum, Chief Ndubuisis Iroha said that Ikpeazu erred. “In place of honouring our illustrious son, who was wickedly slain  50 years ago by declaring a public holiday in his honour, attending the church service on July 29, the day he was assassinated, the governor chose that day to pour inventive on his opponents and the judiciary.
He alleged that the governor shunned the memorial service of the former slain general to address a rally at Michael Okpara square, telling his audience how he would make Abia ungovernable through militant activity if Uche Ogah was sworn-in as governor.
The forum decried the inciting statements being made by the governor at every forum has caught their attention and that of Abians and they have wondered why he should stand on their soil to dish out such such statements against his opponents and Nigerian state. The group wondered why a government that banned public rally would turn around to hold one thereby breaking its own law.
They advised the governor to be patient and await the outcome of the appeal court instead of running from pillar to post complaining to people who already knows the truth of the matter.
They said the governor even admitted before his audience at the rally that his tax papers were faulty and wondered why he should be prosecuted for an offence committed by the issuing body, which is the state internal revenue service.According to the forum, the governor even exonerated himself from any blame over the information contained in his tax documents and asked that the agency that issued the documents be prosecuted.
