Entertainment hotspot, Niteshift Coliseum, rots away

For decades, it was the choice destination of fun seekers. It was so hot it had the Glamour Boys’ Club, an exclusive club that boasted of rich and influential Nigerians in Oil & Gas, banking, entertainment, sport and business. In fact, if you were not a member of Glamour Boys’ Club, then you had not ‘arrived’.

So massive was the platform it hosted a couple of past presidents, governors, senators  and high networth individuals at its monthly events. It was also a thriving venue for concerts, and of course, nite clubbing. It was the platform that launched into the limelight the likes of Majek Fashek and Ras Kimono back in the day. a

In deed, Guv’nor of the Coliseum, Ken Calebs Olumense had a passion for entertainment. Little wonder his exploits earned him the sobriquet, ‘the ultimate show shiner’.

However, ever since he stepped aside a couple of years ago, a vacuum has emerged and night life has not been the same for a lot of socialites.

A source lamemted: “Coliseum used to be the place to be. It had the crème de la crème and even hosted governors and presidents but today it is a shadow if itself. Ever since Guv’nor stepped aside, all has not been well and nobody was able to sustain the dream hence the place has been under lock and key.

“In fact, obviously identifying the potentials, a lot of investors have approached him but he has refused to budge because he is afraid that they will not be able to meet up with the high standard he maintained for over three decades running Nigeria’s longest running club.

“You know, he is a perfectionist who believes everything must be planned to the last detail. Ken Calebs has very high standards and does not compromise. He is looking for someone who can take and run the club the way he did. It is sad that until that happens, Coliseum will continue to rot away and weeds might even overtake the place. It is so sad.”

Recently, in recognition of his achievements, he was honoured as Man Crush of The Month during Hard Rock Cafés’ monthly show, She Rocks: International Women Edition

Receiving his award, the comedian who was clad in a black T-shirt and a matching pair of black jeans and trainers advised women to respect their husbands for a stable home and also called on men to appreciate their better halves.

Hear him: “Gone are the days when a man will just sit down like the king and have his wife do everything for him. A man must appreciate his wife. A lot of men don’t realize it but women are stronger than men and once you realise it you will have no problem. A woman is the last person to sleep at night and also the first person to wake up and we as men must appreciate them. That is how I have survived the last seven years of my marriage.

And speaking to women he continued: “Don’t say because you have a successful musical career or whatever, you can’t cook for your man. Whatever you are outside, when you get home you must drop it at the door and play the role of a wife by taking care of your husband if you want your marriage to succeed.

“You must strike that balance between career and your home. That has what has kept my marriage for the last seven years.

“If you do this, your man will be smart enough to appreciate you. When you make him your king, make him feel like he is the king and when you do that, your man will realise and he will gladly become your slave.”
