The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) has opened its new secretariat in Abuja’s highbrow area of Asokoro. Upon assumption of their positions, after the election on June 29, 2017, the new FTAN executive members promised to hit the ground running as they pledged to be proactive in spearheading tourism development in Nigeria, using FTAN as the catalyst.
Since the founding of FTAN, the secretariat had been donated by prominent members of the federation, free of charge; the last person to do so was Chief Tomi Akingbogun, who allowed FTAN to use a hall in his Hotel Rosebud, Abuja, for four years.
The new president, Alhaji Saleh Kareem Rabo, during his acceptance speech, pledged before the over 200 delegates who attended the annual general meeting that his first mission would be to secure a befitting office for FTAN within three weeks in the post.
Rabo, who confirmed this in Abuja, said, “We are glad to have quickly secured a befitting office space and national secretariat for FTAN. The credit for it goes to the entire members of the new FTAN executive council. I heartily thank the excos and also congratulate the FTAN family across Nigeria.
“I, therefore, encourage FTAN member associations, especially those in Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, to confidently use the new office for their meetings and seminars, whenever they are in Abuja,” he said.
Then new secretariat is located at No. 5, Lord Lugard Street, Asokoro, Abuja. The office is very close to Nigeria Police Force headquarters, and a stone’s throw from the Federal Secretariat, Abuja. The location is central, as such accessing the secretariat would be very easy for members coming from outside Abuja.
Mr. Precious Okonji, the administrative secretary of FTAN, said, “FTAN can now boast of a standard office located in a highbrow area of the Federal Capital Territory. The new office has an air-conditioned boardroom that can comfortably seat 30 people.  It also has an exclusively furnished office for the president, secretary and the admin staff.
“This is a brilliant move in the right direction. As it is now, FTAN can host even the President of this country.”
