The Governing Council of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) has announced the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS), Professor Muhammad Zaiyan Umar, as the new Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Prof Uma is taking over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bello Bala Shehu, whose tenure of five years will end on December 3.

Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council of the University, Professor Funmi Togonu-Bickersteth announced the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor while briefing newsmen after the Council 25th meeting held in the institution

According to her, “as you may be aware, the tenure of the Vice-Chancellor ends on December 3, 2022. The Governing Council at its 25th meeting held from Monday, 21st to Thursday, 24th November 2022 approved the appointment of Prof. Muhammad Zaiyan Umar as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi.”

She said the approval comes on the heels of advertisements in national dailies and subsequent interview by the Governing Council.

The Pro-Chancellor explained that Umar who was the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor is a Professor of Political science at the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS), born on June 12, 1963, with three decades of professional and administrative experience.

“He started his professional career at the UDUS as a Graduate Assistant in 1989 and became a Professor in 2009,” she said.
