The Governing Council of Federal University, Dutsinma, Katsina State, has approved the appointment of Prof Adamu Nchama Baba-Kutigi as the new Acting Vice Chancellor of the school.

Baba-Kutigi replaces Prof Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi. A press statement by the institution’s Director, Public Relations and Protocol, Habibu Garba Matazu, said that the new appointment was sequel to Baba-Kutigi’s nomination by the Senate of the university at its 73rd emergency meeting last Wednesday.

According to the statement, “in line with section 5 sub-section 14 of the Universities Miscellaneous Provisions, Amendment Act, 2003, the appointment of the new acting Vice Chancellor is for a maximum period of six months in all circumstances.

“The appointment will subsist only up to the time the university’s authorities are able to appoint a substantive Vice Chancellor provided the time is within the period from 27th March to 26th September 2019.

“Until his new appointment, Prof. Baba- Kutigi was Dean, Faculty of Science, as well as former Head, Department of Physics of the university.”

Born on 10th June, 1956, Baba-Kutigi hails from Kutigi, Lavun local government area of Niger State and had his early education at Government Secondary School Eyagi, Bida and later obtained Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) at the Teachers’ College, Minna in 1979.

He also attended the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and proceeded to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Physics.

Baba-Kutigi is member of Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP) and Nigerian Association of Teachers of Technology (NATT), among other professional associations and groups.
