Former chairman of Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Chief Ngozi Chukwu, has advised teachers agitating for the transfer of funding of primary education to the state governments to retrace their steps, saying that they would suffer more if their wishes were granted.

Teachers across the country under the aegis of Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) have been agitating for the transfer of funding of primary education to the State Governments; instead of being handled by local governments.

Chukwu contended that those agitating for state governments to handle the funding of primary education does not know what they are clamouring for, stating that presently primary education was being funded by Local Governments.

According to him, “the issue remains that those who are agitating that funding of primary education should not be transferred to Local Governments do not know what they are clamouring for because presently, it is the third tier of government that fund primary education in the country.”
