The late Gishiru, who was said to be a local hunter, was killed by a gang of rival thugs, 24 hours after his own son, Jamilu Bala, was fingered as a prime suspect in the murder of one Musa A Yusuf.
The tragic killing of Yusuf followed a disagreement that occurred over the outcome of a local football match that took place at Filim Mushe in Sani Meneke area of Gwale Local Government Area about two weeks ago.
Witnesses told Sunday Sun that soon after the funeral of Yusuf, his relatives and fellow thugs besieged the home of his suspected killer (Jamilu Bala) adding that when they could not find him at home, they descended on his father.
Gishiru, Sunday Sun gathered, was viciously attacked and he sustained grievous injuries. He was later admitted at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where he died after four days.
Kano State Police spokesman, DSP Magaji Mayiya, who confirmed the various killings to Sunday Sun, explained that one Aminu Tijjani had been arrested in connection with the murder of the old man adding that the police have also recovered four swords and 22 sticks as exhibits.
According to him, Tijjani had since confessed to the crime, including mentioning 15 others, now at large, who participated in the killing of the old man.
He revealed that Tijjani was initially charged for criminal conspiracy, causing grievous injury and possession of dangerous weapons but added that the charge of grievous injury was later substituted for culpable homicide after the death of Alhaji Bala Gishiru.
As at the time of filing this report, Bala was still at large. The coach and the organizers of the football match, who Sunday Sun reporter learnt were earlier taken in for questioning had been released on bail by the police.
