National Telecommunications Company, Globacom, has announced a major upgrade and overhaul of its network infrastructure aimed at increasing quality of service, data speed and capacity expansion.

In a new road map recently released in Lagos, Globacom explained that in the last ten months, it has embarked on nationwide swapping of equipment with up-to-date technology. This was preceded by the arrival of over 2,600 tons of new network equipment in the country, delivered by 26 specially chartered freight aircrafts.

The company prides itself as offering subscribers the best value in the market, enriching customer experience on the network in terms of installing the best-in-class technology and lifestyle-changing products and services.

The Group Technical Officer of Globacom, Sanjib Roy, in a presentation to stakeholders and journalists in Lagos recently said that equipment has gone a long way in transforming the Glo network into brand new with superior quality and higher capacity, adding that “Activation is looking up, traffic into the network is going up and consumption is up,”

Roy further noted that the bandwidth has increased from 400mb to 1.5 – 2gb. for the Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Rivers areas as a result of the successful deployment of the  new e-band radio technology, while transmission network to IP has also been modernised with the supply and deployment of over1000 microwaves.

He added that multi-sector antenna has been concluded for better 3G indoor coverage, high speed data download, signal quality and network coverage, as well as the deployment of high wattage Radio Remote Units (RRU) for 3G services further deepen data network quality for subscribers
