Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr is not only losing sleep over the team’s right back position problem but that of goalkeeping, even as he has resolved to make fresh move to lure back Vincent Enyeama.
Eagles prosecuted last Saturday’s game without first choice keeper, Carl Ikeme who was ruled out by injury. South Africa based Daniel Akpeyi stepped in and had a relatively good outing.
Though Rohr has praised Akpeyi for putting up a good performance, the coach is still insisting on having “two big keepers” in the team referring to Enyeama and Ikeme.
A competent NFF source told Daily Sunsports that Rohr would be making another overture to Enyeama to stage a comeback to the team. Our source disclosed that the German tactician wants a situation where he would at every point in time have two good safe hands in the team.
“To many people, Rohr’s biggest problem is that of solving the Eagles right back problem, but that is not really his main headache. He wants the team to also have two good keepers. As we speak, he (Rohr) wants to see Enyeama back in the team. He wants the very best of players. The case of Victor Moses has further made him to think about Enyeama. Some of us wanted Moses excluded from the game against Algeria for not honouring the Zambia call up, but the coach said no. At the end, Moses came and added value to the team. Rohr says he would do everything to bring any player that can help him win matches.”
It is recalled that Enyeama who is doing well for his club, Lille in the French Ligue 1 decided to call time on his international career after a face off with former Eagles manager, Sunday Oliseh.
Rohr has since taking charge of the Eagles not hidden his desire to see the Akwa Ibom state born keeper return to the team.
