Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has visited and sympathised with victims of the recent flood disaster in Funakaye Local Government of the state.

Governor Yahaya who lamented the magnitude of the flood disaster. He equally announced a donation of N5 million to the affected people in the area.

He also appealed to the citizens of the State to always apply caution while interacting with the environment as climate change and global warming are a consequence of human activities.

Expressing his gratitude to the Governor for the sympathy visit, the Emir of Funakaye, Alhaji Mu’azu Mohammed Kwairanga described the visit as a show of love and concern from a leader who always has his people at heart.

He said despite earlier visits by the State Deputy Governor and other Government functionaries to sympathise with the people of Funakaye, the Governor still deemed it fit to come by himself, an action described by the royal father as sublime.

Shortly after the visit to the emir, the governor took time off to inspect some areas worst hit by the flood disaster where he interacted with the affected persons.

Meanwhile, Governor Inuwa Yahaya has directed the Ministry of Land and Survey, Gombe State Geographic Information System (GOGIS) and the Funakaye local government council to identify a suitable, secure and safer location to resettle the people of the Shara Mansur community in Bajoga ravaged by the recent flood disaster.

He noted that the area they currently reside in is flood-prone and therefore dangerous for habitation.

Speaking on behalf of the Members of the affected Community Mal Mai Masallaci said aside from the deaths recorded, the torrential rains also ravaged over 70 houses and rendered many homeless with some taking shelter in Schools, Mosques and neighbourhoods.

He thanked the governor for identifying with their community in their moment of trial.

Governor Yahaya was equally at a washed-away bridge along Ashaka Gari road to inspect ongoing repair works recently awarded by his administration. He assured the people of the area that repair works on the bridge will be completed in record time.
