From Ali Abare, Gombe

The Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency (GSPHCDA) has appealed to media organisations in the state to sensitise the public on the importance of immunisation.

Deputy Director, Immunisation department of the agency, Malam Musa Ibrahim Kuna, made the appeal, on Tuesday, during a state level sensitisation and review meeting with representatives of media organisations working in the state.

Kuna lamented that despite the rigorous campaigns across the state, cases of resistance still linger in some areas, stressing the need for media involvement in the campaign.

“We do not want a situation whereby we will use force on people. What we want is for them to accept it willingly and we are counting on you the media to sensitize the public before the next round of immunization scheduled for Saturday,” he said.

“We have 501 Primary Care Health facilities out of which 483 were conducting routine immunization but people were not coming,” he said.

He appealed to parents to change their behaviours and utilise what they have while it was still available.

“These donor agencies that were providing the vaccines for us free of charge may be no more in the country with time. Therefore it is good to make use of every single opportunity at our door steps,” he explained.
