The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Gombe State said it has secured freedom for six inmates at the Gombe main prison.

Barr. Obel Yaji said,  on Wednesday, that the gesture was part of activities marking the association’s Law Week.

Yaji, who doubles as chairman, organising committee for the Law Week, said the prisoners secured their freedom after the NBA paid fines and compensations to the tune of N28, 000.

“We sought for those that committed lesser offence such as belonging to gangs and keeping late hours. We were able to pay fines for six inmates and they were set free,” he explained.

The NBA, which began its Law Week activities by staging a rally around the Gombe metropolis, equally visited an orphanage located within the old High Court complex.

Members of the association donated rice, Semovita, Indomie noddles, and fruit juice at the orphanage.
