Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday in Abeokuta gifted World Champion Tobi Amusan a house in Ijebu Ode and a cash gift of N5m.

This is coming weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari conferred on the world champion the national honour of Order of the Niger (OON).

The reward from Gov. Abiodun is in celebration of Amusan’s World Championship and Commonwealth Games feats in the 100m women’s hurdles.

The 2018 Commonwealth and 2019 African Championship winner was also named sports ambassador of Ogun State.

In April 2021, the Ogun State Government adopted Amusan after a visit to the governor by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, whose adopt-a-talent initiative has seen state governors, individuals and corporate bodies adopting some of the Tokyo Olympics- bound athletes by paying money directly to the athletes account to support their early preparations for the Games.

Gov. Abiodun was vocal in his celebration of Amusan when she won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham dubbing the sensational sprinter “Golden Girl”

“Our golden girl has done it, again. This is a testament to the fact that she is consistent, reliable, and deserved the world record, indeed. This is a moment of joy for us all in Ogun State and Nigeria and we are pleased with her streak of successes”, Gov. Abiodun had said in a statement.
