From Aloysius Attah, Onitsha

Igboeze, a socio-political group has advised Anambra voters to absolve Governor Willie Obiano of any shortcomings since according to them; he was not prepared and did not work for his present position but was imposed on the state.
Speaking during a meeting  in  Awka,  the president of the group, Pius Okoye advised that  next governor of the state should be chosen based on merit and character instead of sentiments of zoning and continuity.
He said the lack of merit-based politics has retarded development in the South East and Nigeria at large.
He said Igboezue group seeks to identify credible leaders who have love for the Igbo and that is why it has identified with the candidate of the Progressive People’s Alliance ( PPA),  Godwin Ezeemo because he meets their criteria.
“ Anambra people should learn from the mistake they made in Obiano who was not prepared for governor but was imposed on the state and should therefore not be blamed for his failure. But Ezeemo is a man who has the fear of God and good conscience and is also very passionate about Anambra people.
Grace Anekwe, the woman leader of the group said the party a candidate belongs to plays little or no role after elections and therefore does not deserve so much emphasis.  She also charged all governors to wait for people to ask for their re-election based on their perception of their performance instead of clamouring for it.
