Concerned by the rate of unsafe abortion and maternal death in the nation, Catholics of Lagos Archdiocese under auspices of The Order of the Knight of Saint Mulumba(KSM), Nigeria, Ikeja sub-council organised a rally titled “Pro-life and Walk for Life to sensitised Lagosians about abortion risks, dangers and complications.
The Metropolitan Grand Knight of KSM, Mr Charles Mbelede said Catholic Church Worldwide are saddled with the responsibility of sanctity and sacredness. Although every year pro-life exercise are observed in other to create awareness. In Nigeria, abortion is legally restricted, but despite its restriction thousands of abortions happen each year and women die from unsafe abortions because most times those who perform it are not adequately trained.
He asked in an increasingly health conscious society, why does abortion lack warning label despite the numerous sensitisation exercise showing the medical risk on women? “Nigeria has one of the highest rates of maternal death in the world. In Lagos, abortion cause half of the deaths of pregnant women, yet people still engage in it.KSM has resolved to continue with it sensitisation initiative on abortion of which advocacy of know the facts about abortion. is so vital. All of us should be concerned about the prevalence of violence against these vulnerable groups within our community. Society is made of women, men and children, so, why do we allow them to be relegated to the status “of less than” “not equal to” when they play a role in the functionality of the community. Ensuring the respect and safety of women and children is essential to the equitability of a society
“As falling rain, is the tears of God for the blood spilled of unborn children that covers the hands of the human race. God cry when rocking little babies in His big loving arms who were destroyed. As a strong earthquake, His fingers tremble when caressing the faces of the planted seed before it had a chance to grow roots. Right to choose, it’s what human call it. What a strange symphony of empty words before Him the truth is always known. In the God’s eyes. Before God the person has committed murder. The drops of blood are still falling today staining the cold steel of the doctors’ tables. The silent scream of those without voice covers the entire earth and the tiny hands of them without choice reaches out to those who have closed eyes to their plea”.
Mbelede said as a society there are many prevailing issues which tend to compete with human existence but human life must be protected. “This campaign is majorly to protect life for it is God that gives life, no human has the right to terminate life,” he stated.”
The position of theCatholic church is on the right to life for the unborn baby. Regardless of how such child was conceived life begins at conception and ends in natural death.
