The last has definitely not been heard of the gruesome murder of a popular leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Shogunle, Alhaji Rasak Bello, popularly known as “Hamburger.”

Hamburger was said also to be a chieftain of the All Progressives Party (APC) and head of the Motorcycle Operators’ Association of Lagos State (MOALS).

On Monday, a group of All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Oshodi, protested the killing of Hamburger, demanding prompt and immediate justice on the murder. The group also alleged that there was a grand design to cover up to real perpetrators of the dastardly act.

The group, under the aegis of Concerned Oshodi APC Faithful, marched round Bolade, Shogunle and Ladipo area of the locality calling for justice especially from the leadership of the party in the state, the state government and law enforcement agents.

A leader of the group, Pa. Seriki Adebisi, who claimed he was a stone throw away from the spot of the incident, told reporters that there was a grand design to cover up the real cause of the death of the union leader.

According to Pa Adebisi, “It was an unfortunate thing that Hamburger died the way he did. I was on the street when the whole crisis started. I can boldly tell you that one of Hamburger’s boys mistakenly shot him.

“What I observed was that the vest Hamburger wore that way was the same that Samson (Golden) wore.  Hamburger and his boys came in two Jeeps to the place and one of his boys brought gun and aimed it at him thinking it was Samson he wanted to shoot.

“We want the police and other agencies of the state to dig deep into the cause of the crisis and the death of Hamburger, and not listen to the various fake news and reports coming from all quarters.”

Another leader of the group, who identified himself simply as Bashy rejected the view that Hamburger was killed at Ago Owu as being reported in some quarters.

According to Basshy, Hamburger was shot dead at Simbi Street and not at Ago Owu as being claimed. Giving his own narration of the incident, Basshy says, “On that day, Hamburger came with two vehicles loaded with his boys into the area which is different from where he used to cast his vote. When Golden called Hamburger to know what was wrong, one of his (Hamburger’s) boys aimed at him, but unfortunately it caught Hamburger and that was it.”

Some protesters also alleged that a policeman also allegedly fired Hamburger which also aided his death. One Shayo Ayokusibe told our reporter that apparently wanting to disperse the surging miscreants, the police deployed to the scene took aim at the feuding parties and the bullet also reportedly hit Hamburger.
