A group, Shoulder for Gender Support and Development Initiative, has frowned at what it described as inadequate participation of women in Nigerian politics, which has distanced them from governance.
This was disclosed in Nnewi, Anambra State, in a seminar organised by the initiative, which ex-rayed causes and consequences of gender inequality in political representation and governance.
Executive Director of the initiative, Mrs. Chioma Okeke, said at the event with the theme: “Balance for better,” that it could only get better, if women are actively involved in the electoral and political process. She said it was a call to action for driving gender balance even across the world aimed at addressing social, economic and political shortcomings that women face from completely fulfilling their aspirations.
She enjoined women to come out from their shells and join the cause of reaching out to more women, so they could be encouraged to believe in themselves, speak out on issues that affect them, and take positive steps towards greatness, in order to attain a balanced world “because we are convinced that the better the balance, the better the world.”
