The Zamfara State government has been called upon to, as matter of urgency, repair a broken culvert along the Gummi-Gayari Road, in Gummi Local Government Area.

The culvert has turned to death trap for motorists and passersby.

The call, made by a  group known as Concerned Citizens of Gayari town in Gummi Local Government Area, claimed that if urgent action was not taken to repair the broken culvert, many lives were likely to continue to be lost due.

Speaking to Daily Sun, leader of the group, Alhaji Muhammad Sani, said the areas around the broken culvert have become dangerous to motorists particularly first-time users of the road.

“Many have lost their lives and many people have sustained incurable injuries which have rendered them physically challenged as a result of accidents at the affected areas,” he said.

Muhammad also wanted the state government to hasten the repair of some portions along the road which have been washed out by flood during last year’s rainy season.

A politician in the local government, Alhaji Muhammad  Acidukiya said that they have been complaining about the problem and are now waiting for the state government to  ensure that the culvert and  the damaged parts of the road  are repaired to avert  further lost of lives and destruction of valuable properties.
