The Save the Dream Nigeria-Project has welcomed the resignation of the former Nigeria Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group, in a press statement signed by its National Coordinator, Chris Chukwubuzor Azuka, a copy of which was made available to journalists, noted that “as a free citizen of Nigeria, we concede  to him the right to join any political party of his choice at any given time and to pursue his political aspirations without undue hindrance or impediments from any quarters.

The group also said it was delighted that ABubakar has left what it described as a ‘visionless ruling party that is incapable of keeping its promises to restructure the country and advance the course of peace, unity and development therein’.

The group continued, “We consider Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as a viable political leader who not only has the vision, intensity and Intelligence to restructure Nigeria but also to give her a new and worthier political direction she truly deserves, ”  the statement read in part.

The group noted that Nigeria needed a 21st century presidency in 2019 and that Atiku is for now the only politician who has clear idea of where the nation should be directed in the near future.

“We believe that the coordinated media attacks on Alhaji Atiku will fail. The campaign of calumny is designed to discredit him by portraying him as not only a corrupt politician, but as one of the most corrupt politicians in the country. But what makes him a corrupt politician and where are the pieces of evidence? In civilized climes, corrupt people are prosecuted in the law courts and not on the pages of newspapers.

The press statement added that Atiku had not even been a governor, minister or president yet, but some vested interests that are afraid of his towering political profile are determined to cast him as the most corrupt politician in Nigeria.

The dream of casting the former Vice President in a bad light, according to the group, will not see the light of the day “as Nigerians cannot be hoodwinked into believing falsehood and total lie being peddled about his person.”
