Ten persons have been killed by unknown gunmen in some communities of Katisna-Ala and Ukum Local Government areas of Benue State.

It was gathered that five persons were on Wednesday night killed after some armed men invaded some settlements in Mbayongo District of Katsina-Ala local council of Benue State while another five persons were also killed on Thursday night in Ayati Village, Ukum local government by gunmen.

In the Katsina-Ala killing, sources from the area said the victims had marks on their bodies suggesting that they must have been beaten to death by their assailants in their homes.

Our correspondent gathered that three of the persons killed were from Nagu settlement, one at Tse Gyudu and another victim at Tse Weryina settlement which are smaller adjoining villages to Gbishe Ako.

But sources from Ukum said some gunmen who rode on mortocycles stormed the village at about 8pm and positioned themselves strategically before shooting sporadically at anyone in sight.

Our impeccable source, a politician from the area disclosed that a woman who was going for a funeral wake was hit by stray bullet and died while four other men were also shot dead by the yet to be identified gunmen.

The politician who did not want his name mentioned for fear of him being attacked said serve all other people sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to undisclosed hospitals for treatment while the remains of the dead had been deposited at the General hospital in the area.

Our source said police were immediately informed of the sad development and had moved to the area but was not sure if anyone had been arrested in connection with the killings.
